I was hoping I would not have to write this blog of shame, but I do. This morning, when I went to check on the plants, I found my Roma tomatoes, all 8 of them, roasted to the top of their rockwool cubes.
I had removed the tomato seedling from the humidity dome several days ago
and placed them next to the planting tray on the floor. They seemed
to do fine this way. That was until I placed them on top of the humidity
dome, about 8" from the lights, thinking this would help boost their growth a little. Also, and what I think was the nail in the coffin, I sprayed the poor little seedlings with some water to KEEP THEM MOIST as they were closer to the light! This, I believe, actually helped them roast even better.
So, the tomato seedling went into the trash, and I raised the light a bit on the other plants. I am also making sure to be careful to only water the rockwool cubes, and not spray the plant leaves.
I planted some new seeds tonight. Life must go on, and hopefully I am wiser because of this.
All of my other plants are doing fine now. The pepper plants that hadn't sprouted are now flourishing nicely(all they needed was the heat mat to germinate. The spinach and zucchini seeds didn't sprout, but I have replanted, and the spinach is already coming up.
